Weipa Solar Farm Time Lapse

Australia

The time lapse video below (courtesy of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency ARENA) shows stage 1 construction of Weipa Solar Farm at Weipa in Queensland. The solar farm will supply the local Rio Tinto mini grid with 6.7MW of energy when complete, including battery storage as part of stage 2 (stage 1, shown in the video below, will deliver 1.7MW capacity). Rio Tinto will purchase the power on a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The power generated by the solar farm is expected to offset 20% of the generation from the existing 26MW diesel power station, saving up to 600,000L of fuel each year.
