US president Barak Obama has revealed his Clean Power Plan which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32% compared to 2005 levels by 2013. President Obama has stated that there is no greater threat to the earths future than that of climate change, and that it is a moral obligation for this generation.
Individual states must submit a plan on how they will address the target by September 2016, and must comply with the plan by 2022.
This is seen as a major climate legacy for Obama, and will play a major part in global climate talks to be held in Paris in December this year. It will help secure a deal with the rest of the world, which will in turn also bolster support for his domestic plan.
The white house released a video explaining his clean power plan and calling on the current generation to take action.
